Whether sketching with the Oregon Botanical Artists or on my own, botanical matter is my far favorite subject. Why do I create mainly contour line drawings? Simply because it gives me the most joy. I believe that each artist should create for themselves, and my drawings are a reflection of me.
While working on a subject, I find the examination of objects, space between objects, details, light, and shadow to put me into an almost meditative state. When I take ink to my pencil drawings I can choose which lines best define the work without being too literal, although botanically accurate as possible.
My favorite pens to draw with are Faber-Castell Pit Pens, and my paper of choice is smooth Bristol.
